I can't think of a richer, more illustrious and historically significant stone than Lapis Lazuli. It has been mined for thousands of years, and was prized by the ancient Egyptians. Cleopatra used powdered Lapis as eyeshadow. The ancient Romans believed that the stone was a powerful aphrodisiac. And it was ground and used as the base for paint by the monks who created illuminated manuscripts during the Renaissance.

Here, a gorgeous and large briolette of faceted Lapis hangs from a dotted 14k goldfill chain. It's a simple but vibrant adornment, a modern take on ancient luxury. This necklace features the most valuable form of Lapis--deep blue, often with visible surface inclusions of gold Pyrite. The necklace measures 17.5 inches long, and the Lapis is 1/2 inch long.
