Maura Lei - a bookGoddess

This is a bookmark - but Maura Lei is also so lovely and so keen to bestow her unlimited quantities of benevolence upon your reading hours -- that she is a bookGoddess. She will amuse, delight and inspire you to read more - she will also keep your place in your book while you're away.

9.2" tall X 2.5" wide (233mm X 65mm) Maura Lei is the perfect size by bookGoddess standards. She is an original piece of art on thick card stock, never to be made again by me. Some people buy these and frame them but she is just a bookmark and would very much like it if you'd use her that way!

I molded her face and then painted it to resemble ancient metal with the patina of age. Her black and white hat is a fabulous mix of swirls and circles -- made of fabric and paint. Her kinky black hair is a bit of unraveled wool tweed (don't worry - my dad's old coats and jackets are all unmolested!). Here dress is a bit of paper which I painted mossy green, sponged with black then etched out circles, scrapped, and basically screwed around with until it pleased me. Her underskirt is just some black and white ribbon and her neck scarf - fabric to match her hat. Wow - she is really put together well -- and isn't this exactly the sort of thing you'd wear if only you could find such fabulous clothes. Really - a designer needs to come along and HIRE ME to help them design more interesting clothes for us all to wear. Until that happens, I'll continue making bookGoddesses and "dressing" them in the most wonderful outfits possible. Throw in a pair of comfy cowboy boots and this girl is ready to roll through your next book with you!
