Larvikite Norwegian Moonstone freeform designer gemstone cabochon

Larvikite also known as Norwegian Moonstone is not really moonstone, larvikite is a variety of monzonite, notable for the presence of handsome crystals of feldspar. The feldspar has partly unmixed on the micro-scale to form a perthite, and the presence of the alternating alkali feldspar and plagioclase layers give its characteristic silver blue sheen (Schiller effect) on polished surfaces. These chrystals give off a beautiful blue flash in each direction the stone is turned.

This freeform designer cabochon was handcut and polished by me.
