Pineapple shibori on cherry red rayon fabric panel ONLY ONE
Description
This textile lived out its useful life as the lining of a kimono sleeve. When I first came across the kimono, I had no idea what was hiding inside until this fabric jumped out at me without warning. Just like the Japanese to hide something so wild inside of a more subtle exterior. The textile appears to be rayon, but may be a synthetic fiber of some sort. I did not do a burn test, but can safely say it is not silk. It is truly vibrant, with a bright sheen a personality all its own. I only have one panel of this fabric as I sold the other piece long ago.
--------Measurements-------
Full panel:
14" x 52"
36 cm x 133 cm
Shibori circles average 3.75" (9 cm) across.
Stripes average 5" ( 13 cm) wide.
----------------------------
The shibori circles are done in the kumo (spiderweb) style. The stripes appear to have been stitched, tightly gathered and bound with thread before dyeing. The fabric was dyed at least twice; once in yellow, once in red. Some of the original white is visible in places.
