Wanderlust Carrier Pigeon ORIGINAL Collage Painting-vol.1

6 x 6 inch canvas, 1.5 inch deep

This is a piece from my series of collage paintings with a traveling nostalgic theme. Each canvas has pieces of a decorative map of Paris glued to the surface, as well as a carrier pigeon cut out from test prints of my “Lingering Correspondence” etching (listing: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=21904313 ). The carrier pigeon was originally drawn by me, transferred to a zinc plate and printed on Bugra paper in sepia etching ink. I then added little red trails in acrylic paint. Lastly, I darkened the edges of the canvas.
Much attention is paid to the sides of the canvas.
I have glued hand printed papers from Bangladesh to the sides that compliment the image and make the work ready to hang- no frame necessary.

The canvas has been coated in UV gloss varnish and is signed by the artist on the back.

A bit about the pigeons:
Carrier Pigeons were used in World War I and World War II to transmit messages, and tragically many were shot down recognized by the enemy. I love the idea that these pigeons will travel great distances to return to where they came. It is also a romantic notion that secret messages are being delivered by these little postmasters.
