Brown Wool Kirtle with Lacing - 32-38 inch bust
Description
Dresses in this style were worn during the transition to the Renaissance, in the 1400s. This dress is made with 100% wool gabardine, which is a very lightweight weave, meaning that it won't keep you really hot in warm weather. It is trimmed in green and dark blue bias tape made of cotton. It was made using a medieval-style pattern which I drafted myself. Medieval patterns are unique in that most of the pieces are straight cut, and the patterns are designed to waste as little fabric as possible. Distinguishing features of medieval clothing are the gores and gussets used to shape the clothing, rather than curved seams.
The dress has lacing up the front which allows it to be very fitted. When laced all the way closed, the dress's measurements are about 34" bust, 30" waist, and 42" hips. The lacing can be adjusted for larger sizes in the waist and bust.
The dress comes with a strong black cotton lacing cord with silver aglets.
The painting with the woman in blue is from 1416. The painting with the woman in red is from 1470.
Care instructions: Wash with a warm or cold cycle, tumble dry with low heat, or hang to dry. Do not use bleach!
