The Ants Come Marching - Flying Carpet Tray - Handmade Tile

Here's a new line of functional pieces that I was inspired to make after playing with some of my handmade stamps. They remind me of Flying Carpets. Use these trays to hold snacks, appetizers, hot pots....anything you'd like to display on a fancy flying carpet!

This small tray started it's life as a thin slab of porcelain clay, which I stamped with a few of my handmade stamps - fun little ants along the edges. I then laid it over a slump mould I made, and added 2 small coiled and stamped feet to the bottom. It measures about 4 1/4" wide X 6" long, and about 3/4" high. I've glazed the center section in my peach satin matte, then a line of gloss black, and finished up the "ant" ends in a mottled gloss transparent blue/green. The tray is nicely off-center and very light. The glazes are mid-range stoneware and non-lead.

I'm beginning to explore the use of my handmade stamps and tile moulds to create these tile-like trays. Watch for more one-of-a-kind pieces coming soon!
