Stamped cup, Pattern in Blackberry

4"h x 5 3/4"l x 4 1/4"d; holds 12 oz.

This satiny glaze is called Blackberry and is a bright red wine color. The interior is a glossy version of the same.

Daily elegance for your morning coffee or tea.

I throw this form on the potter’s wheel and then use stamps I design and make to impress and alter the surface of the cup. My fingerprint is on the other side of each one of the stamps. The handles I make (two pieces) are hand-pulled, formed and added. I also decorate the top quarter of the cup and handle (and sometimes areas in the stamp itself) with slip-trailing --the clay version of cake decorating. No molds are used!

This stamp is one of my pattern drawings. The undulation from the stamping and relief of the slip creates a wonderfully soft and tactile surface.

Elegant and intended for your use and enjoyment much like Grandma’s dishes. Handmade pottery can need (and happily, deserves) a little more love to prolong its life than contemporary manufactured ware, so while durable and microwavable, hand washing is recommended. Do not pour boiling, stovetop water directly into handmade ware. “Pre-warming” pieces by filling with warm/hot tap water prior to pouring hot water for coffee or tea is recommended.

The clay and glazes are lead-free and food safe.
