This is a two handed instrument, one hand to hold the limberjack's operating stick and one hand to bounce the paddle board.

Limberjacks are a true American handcraft; made and played for hundreds of years in the US and Canada. During the American Civil War, Limberjacks were carved and played by soldiers in remembrance of fallen comrades. Use of Limberjacks is widespread; you can see them played in the British Isles, Appalachia and at folk festivals.
