Fan Language, an ACEO mini art panel
Description
This pretty little art panel portrays mysterious eyes looking over a 3-dimensional cherry blossom paper fan on a trading card sized piece of walnut, just because I happen to like wood.“Fan Language” refers to the technique of flirting using fans held in certain positions. Although some historians have shown that fan language cues were not as common and standard as we are sometimes given to believe, I rather like the charming idea. I have long been fascinated by fans, and own fans from around the world. Beauty, function, and fascination…that’s what I love about fans and that's what inspired this piece.
Hand-cut and shaped walnut forms the base of this piece, and rubber stamps I carved tell the story, with some hand-drawn black ink for finishing detail. The subtle tones of black ink on dark walnut heighten the mystery. The fan sticks are an unknown blonde wood. Please note, the 3-D nature of the paper fan may make this a little more delicate than my other pieces. The paper has been coated and finished, and the piece will, of course, be packed and shipped very very carefully. This piece is an original, although I may make similar pieces using the same components. Therefore, this has been signed and numbered as my first Fan Language ACEO.
