Description

This is an exquisite one-of-a-kind hard wood butcher block cutting board hand crafted by Bob Kleppin, of Kleppin's Wooden Kitchen.

This all natural end-grain board is 17.75 inches in length, 11.5 inches across, and is 1.25 inches thick. It weighs six lbs 8 oz and is built to last. We call them Heritage Heirloom Cutting Boards because with proper care they should last a lifetime and then some.

For this creation, Bob used Hard Maple, Jatoba, Monterillo, and Bamboo to create an intricate pattern of light and dark that shows off the natural grain in the woods. For your cutting safety, your Heritage Heirloom cutting board remains steady on your counter-top with the addition of four rubber feet firmly fastened into place with wood screws. The woods have been tightly joined with a food safe adhesive called Titebond III. This adhesive is approved by the FDA and Department of Agriculture as being compatible for general food contact and carries a NSF food safe rating.

This board features several shades of honey colored Hard Maple, which is known for its durability and strength. This wood comes from North Eastern US and Canada, and can range in color from white to honey.

The darker accent colors are provided by

Monterillo - Also known as Brazilian Rose Wood. Comes from Central America, Panama, Ecuador, and Venezuela. This is a crop wood with very distinct black stripes in a dark rich brown wood,

Jatoba - A crop wood from central and tropical South America. It is also known as Brazilian Cherry. Very distinct tight grain which adds a unique texture to end grain,

The long, lightest color accents are Bamboo, which is used in food preparation implements around the world. Although classified as a hard wood for woodworking, botanically speaking it's more of a grass.

Your Heritage Heirloom cutting board can serve multiple duties in your kitchen. In addition to being a large, easy to work on, food safe, skid resistant cutting board to make your slicing and dicing easier and safer, it also protects the sharp edges of your knives making them last longer before needing to be sharpened. When not in use, it decorates your home and can be used for serving cold foods, or as a centerpiece for your elegant table. Don't be surprised when your friends and family find themselves compelled to touch the surface of your cutting board. There's just something delightful in the feel of the wood that draws the eye and the hands to the surface.

To properly care for your Heritage Heirloom cutting board, you must only remember a very few things. 1) never use a serrated edged knife on your board, as these knives can damage the board where straight edged knives will not. 2) clean your board after use with water and mild soap, but never soak it and never run it through your dishwasher as this can cause the wood to warp. 3) periodically wipe your board with mineral oil to maintain the beauty of the surface. 4) do not place hot objects on your board, as this can loosen the adhesive. Should your board, after lots of use, develop any un-evenness on the surface, you simply sand it gently with a light grit sand paper and then reapply the mineral oil. Complete care instructions are included with your purchase.
