As usual, a bit of electronic gaming history: Trailing on the success of the NES and the handheld tradition of the Game&Watch series, Nintendo released in 1989 a pocketable (not really) video game system capable of running standalone cartridges. Many great NES titles were ported to the Game Boy, and some original games were developed. It shipped initially with the Russian blockbuster Tetris, and this duo became the sensation of the early 90s. Upon release, Nintendo sold one million units.

It was not the first handheld video game system: The Atari Lynx was released a bit before that, with superior color graphics and more processing power. Sega Struck back in 1991 with the Game Gear, a huge-screened, powerful beast. However, the simple, ingenuous Game Boy was the clear winner of the handheld era, with over 100 million units sold worldwide.

The system was updated a a few times until 1998, when the Game Boy Color brought color graphics Nintendo's handheld. The Pokemon phenomenon marked the comeback of Nintendo as a true gaming powerhouse, a good refreshment in face of Sony's market takeover with the Playstation franchise. The 32-bit Game Boy Advance of 2001 was also a huge hit, boasting one of the best game libraries of any console to date.

Even though Nintendo abandoned the brand Game Boy since the (awesome) Micro in 2005, its legacy still lives with the Nintendo DS family.

We tried our best to add a great level of detail to the Game Boy's face, with a little bit of artistic license (the A and B buttons are actual buttons, and the LED on the side of the screen is a red Murano Glass bead!). We included the sound All the frontal features of the case are hand-sewn, and the sides and the lining are machine-sewn for added strength.
