Chasing Liberty

I was in Istanbul, Turkey recently. The many tiny streets of the Grand Bazaar market construct a maze of shops, artisans, silversmiths, locals and tourists who create a liveliness and vividness unlike any that I've experienced before. In one of these dark little shops, I found this beautiful piece.

It is made out of crushed mother-of-pearl and encased in black resin. The piece is about 1 3/4 by 1 1/4 inches. It is supported by a beautiful 20 inch long gun metal chain with circles measuring about 3/8 of an inch in diameter.

A sleek lobster clasp was placed at one end of the chain while the other end supports the pendant. This way you can wear the necklace at many different lengths because you can attach the clasp at the last circle or somewhere higher up, depending on your taste.
