Mid-Century Brass United Clock with Maple Leaves
Description
An amazing brass clock made by United in the 1950's. This clock is in very good condition for a 50+ year old clock! I plugged the clock in for 24 hours, and it keeps perfect time. The clock face has roman numerals in gold, bordered by a chrome band, With a brass surround. Although the patina on this part of the clock was pretty, it had several ugly black fingerprints that I could not remove with a cloth, so I polished it with brasso and a lot of elbow grease to a nice high shine. A few tiny black corroded spots remain - nothing major, just worth mentioning. The glass over the clock face does not have any scratches.Eight clumps of "branches" extend from the center of the clock, each clump has four smaller branches, each branch having a maple leaf at the end. I really like the patina on the leaves, so I just polished these with a soft cloth. The clock measures approximately 24" across, and the center part of the clock measures 8" diameter. The clock face is marked "United" and in smaller letters at the bottom of the clock face "UNITED CLOCK CORP., BROOKLYN, N.Y. MADE IN U.S.A." Still has its original cord, which is in good condition (no damage to the plastic covering the wires), and measures 54" long. The back states that it is UL listed, 115 volt, Model No. 20. A great mid-century piece!
