Free Shipping to the US & Canada on all our spindle kits & yarns! This is our Double Vineyard maple wood drop spindle kit which we handcraft in our studio in Maine. Not sure which whorl you like?...try them both! It includes 2 balanced spindles one top whorl and one bottom whorl stained in rosewood color. The spindles weigh approximately 1.7 ounces each and are both 12" tall. The kit can be made with 2 top whorls or 2 bottom whorls for sharing with a friend or relative. Please let us know at time of purchase if you want two of the same whorl, otherwise a bottom and a top whorl will be sent.

(A bottom whorl has the whorl weight at the bottom of the shaft and spins slower which is good for heavier yarns which need less twist in them. A top whorl has the weight at the top of the shaft and spins faster which is good for thinner yarns and fine fibers such as angora, alpaca, etc. But, you can spin thin yarn & fine fibers on a bottom whorl but you have to spin it harder as well as you can spin heavier yarn on a top whorl but need to spin it slower. Sometimes, new spinners like the faster top whorl because it spins longer and gives more time to pull the fibers into the twist. I personally prefer a bottom whorl because I find it doesn't wobble as much since the weight is on the bottom. Basically,they both spin yarn the same way and it is a matter of preference).

The kit includes: Two maple wood drop spindles (1 top whorl & 1 bottom whorl),4 ounces of handpainted roving with grape, rose and green accents on a French Vanilla background(enough to make a large skein or to share). One 1 ounce roll of undyed white for practice. There are 2 illustrated instruction booklets for learning to use both types of whorl and a plastic drawstring bag to keep it all in.

Spinning is an ancient craft and we made this spindle kit to pass on the spinning craft to future generations. We have a smoke free environment and use non-toxic, colorfast dyes.
