Description

In the early 1900's, the Reverend Silas Champworth, an inventor and admirer of the work of Nikola Tesla, postulated that the strange plasma images in Tesla's globes were actually lost souls, pinned in the glass by the force of electricity. Champworth created a large vessel designed to attract these souls, then capture them. His intent was to use prayer to redeem the souls and help them "find their way to God". The original version of Champworth's "Aethereal Plasmatic Spirit Harvester" contained a charging vessel fully twelve feet high, the largest example of blown glass at that time.

A curious even occured which convinced Champworth he was indeed doing the Lord's work. After praying over several containers containing souls "captured" by his device, Champworth tripped and dropped all the containers. They broke open at his feet and Champworth was "immediately suffused with a most pleasurable sensation, as if I were being enveloped by the wings of angels". Champworth was convinced of the effectiveness of his method, and resisted the ridicule of critics to his dying day.

The Spirit Harvester is activated by a heavy knife switch on the front of the platform. Green plasma plays across the globe, circling and entering the two trumpet horns, and attracted by the rear disk and the screen globes on either side. The effect is mysterious and transfixing, I like to turn this on in the evening and let it enhance the room until bed-time.

The Spirit Harvester is a unique Steampunk artwork, and is signed and dated. You can see video of it in action here:
