Decorative Vintage German Spekulatius Cookie Form Plaque
Description
This vintage cookie form is a tradition wooden mold for making the German ginger-bread like cookies, spekulatius (a windmill is one of their traditional forms.) Although these cookies are eaten only during Christmas time in Germany, in Holland and Belgium they are eaten all year round. This mold may have been used to make the actual cookies(they are still made in wooden molds as they have been traditionally), I would guess by the hole on the back that it was used as wand decoration. Underneath the mold is the word Wipmuhlen which (I am guessing)is Dutch for windmill or maybe Northern German dialect. The plaque is from either the 60s or the 70s and is in good condition (only a few scratches on the back by the hole for hanging)and is also probably hand carved.
