Chicken Painting - Original - Buff Brahma rooster

In early 2009, I was juried into a gallery show called the "50-50 Show." We had to produce fifty art pieces in fifty days. Whew!

My theme was chickens! I know how strange that must sound, but after twenty-two years of raising and exhibiting bantam chickens, I can safely say that people are just so incredibly drawn to them. In fact, you could say they really “flock” to chickens. Ha ha. Everybody has a chicken story, I think I’ve heard them all every time I show my chicken art! They are just one of those things that people seem to universally relate to. Chickens have such character, such personality (albeit sometimes a bit unpleasant), and most people are unaware of the hundreds of different breeds and color varieties that exist. Everybody needs chickens in their lives, whether the real thing or just a little painting. :-)

This is the forty-eighth painting in the series, a Buff Brahma rooster. All paintings are done with acrylic paint and acrylic paint pens, and varnished with a gloss varnish. This is painted on a 6x6 inch piece of masonite board. All paintings have backgrounds painted in shades of metallic gold. The back of each painting has a tiny hole drilled so that you can hang it on a (very small) nail. They also look great framed!
