Homage To Calder - Pendant

Description

Experimental pendant made entirely from steel and glass inspired by the work of Alexander Calder.

The pendant chain is about 80cm long (32") and is entirely hand-fabricated from hand-made roofing-nails, 17th century iron rivet-heads (see detail photograph), found washers and iron wire. It is set with sea-glass from the Isle of Wight, a tektite (glass from a meteorite) and a piece of shattered antique blue glass found on the site of the now-derelict Leith Tram Works.

The iron components have been lightly waxed with bees' wax to help seal them. As with all iron jewellery, it will change with wear, smoothing and darkening.

As the pendant is made entirely from recycled material, I cannot give any guide to the composition of the steel used. It is therefore possibly not suitable for people with metal allergies
