cat and stars, a 4x8 raku fired art tile

Description

You might want to make a place in your home for this enchanting star gazing cat. A full moon, colorful stars, and swirls. Oh, my! Magic is in the air!

This tile is about 4x8 inches.

This star filled scene would make a perfect gift for any cat lover or collector of original art tiles!

We cut this tile out of a half inch thick slab of clay. After it is dry, it is bisque fired in an electric kiln.
Then the original design was hand drawn in wax, hand glazed and fired to 1800 degrees in a raku kiln. The tile is removed from the kiln while it is still glowing hot and placed into a container of sawdust. The hot tile causes the sawdust to ignite. Then the container is covered producing a smoky carbon rich atmosphere which causes the unglazed parts of the clay to darken.

It is ready to hang by a sturdy wire attached to the back. (see the photo of the back of the tile)

We personally design, hand form, glaze and fire each tile.
Our tiles are widely collected by the art lovers who come to see us at the summer art fairs.
