Simple Oak, 1 oz BOTTOM whorl drop spindle--hook or hookless

Description

NOTE: I have these ready to finish in your choice of: natural, red oak, espresso or black cherry (pictured are natural and espresso). Hook or hookless.

SPECIFICS: This is a lighter bottom whorl than you might be used to. It may dance around at first, especially with thigh rolling. However, the lighter starting weight allows you to really pile on the yarn. The more you pile on, the more stable it becomes.

An awesome choice for the beginner (much better than those clunky student spindles or toy wheel learn to spin kits), those new to bottom whorling or the collector.

WHORL: red oak, 3.5 inches, stained or natural sealed finish
SHAFT: red oak, rounded tip
TOTAL WEIGHT: approx 1.2 oz/34 gms finished weight
TOTAL LENGTH (including hook): 11 inches/28 cms

GENERAL DETAILS: I cut my whorls from actual boards, using a drill press with a hole saw--these are NOT craft store blanks! Each is then carefully shaped and sanded to a smooth, snag-free finish. I use tiny, solid brass eye screws (opened and polished) rather than bulky cup hooks. Once complete, each spindle is sealed with several coats of premium satin polyurethane, hand-rubbed with fine steel wool between coats. Each spindle is signed, dated and the weight in fine print on the bottom of the whorl.
