Description

This hand raised bowl was started quite some time ago, and hung around my studio waiting to be finished, while I waited for inspiration. I liked it very much the way it was, but it just did not feel complete.

Then recently I found what it was missing - a rustic hammered texture over the top two-thirds of the bowl while the lower third remained simple and lightly planished.

It works well for this bowl, which is only slightly asymetrical, and completes its rustic feel.

When raising a bowl from a flat sheet, the hammer blows stretch and compress the metal as it is formed. This usually results in one side of the bowl being higher/lower than another. Most of the time, you just trim the lip so that the bowl is even. With this little bowl I just could not trim any of it off, so the top remains slightly irregular.

This bowl measures 3 1/2" across at the top and about 2" tall. The base is 1 5/8" wide.
