Pools on Mars Hair Barrette

Description

This barrette was made with polymer clay using a technique called Mica Shift. The clay contains metallic particles which are aligned by rolling through a pasta machine to give an effect whereby when looked at one way will seem to be one color, and when looked at by another angle will appear as a darker shade. Also a ghost image can be imprinted in the surface, where a seemingly 3-D picture is visible, but it is in fact 2-D and smooth to the touch.

The final photograph was taken in strong sunlight, and really shows the pearlescent quality of the surface. The barette has been sanded through several grits and buffed to a satin smooth finish.

The barrette measures approximately 0.75 x 3.25"(2 x 8.3cm)
