Mariposa - Art Quilt

Description

This fiber art piece is a hand painted whole cloth quilt. The background is textured canvas fabric stretched over an 8” x 10” (20.3cm x 25.4cm) stretcher frame. The fabric is painted on dampened unstretched fabric. The shapes and designs art then isolated and enhanced with machine and hand embroidery. I have used different types of colored thread including metallic. When the embellishment is complete, the quilt is stretched over the frame and stapled to the backside of the stretcher. A traditional wire hanger attached to the back for hanging.

The warm color palette consists of oranges, yellows, burnt sienna and gold. I have added just a touch of lime green and stark black for a surprise element. There are heavy areas of free motion stitching to add dimension to the surface. This is a very textural piece because of the jacquard canvas used for the background, and the heavy application of paint in some areas.

This is an original signed piece of artwork.

Mariposa will arrive at your home shipped Priority mail, enclosed in a clear plastic sleeve, and wrapped in whatever I can find to get it safely to you!
