I was at my print studio the night Michael Jackson died, and was shocked when I heard he had passed away. "How could it be?" I pondered. "Fifty, fifty, fifty," echoed in my head. Too young.

I went home and spent hours surfing the web, contemplating the fragility of life while listening to his music. As a child, I remember listening to ABC during Saturday morning cartoons, attempting the moonwalk, the fear and awe of Thriller, his ubiquitous white glove, the Neverland Ranch...

This is my tribute to the King of Pop. The design is hand-printed with a blue/black color blend to an ultra soft 70% bamboo and 30% organic cotton shirt. You can't get any more soft or organic than this! The ink is like a dye and actually soaks into the fibers leaving no feeling of ink, just the soft shirt fibers.

I have to admit, this is the favorite shirt that I sell, as it feels like butter on the skin, and the sweat just seems to evaporate off of me all summer long...

Product:
• 70% bamboo
• 30% organic cotton jersey
• machine wash cold, hang dry -- machine drying on high will cause this shirt to shrink (it's the only shirt I sell that will shrink with heat, as the bamboo is sensitive to heat, but it's also recovers and is quite stretchy)

Note: Each shirt is hand-printed by me without the use of machines, so slight imperfections will exist.

While this is ultimately both a design and a product whose sale will earn profits, I want buyers to know that $5. from the sale of this shirt will go towards painting the village school and community center where I lived and worked as a Peace Corps volunteer in Cape Verde from 2001-03. Neither building has been painted since I was last there, and there is obviously a need to improve its condition given the community usage. While villagers always contribute labor for its completion, they are subsistence farmers with little disposable income.

While the cause is not directly related to his music, Hortelao is a village where music is both heard and created. For general photos:
