Wood Money Clip - Teak Wood - Great Gift
Description
NEW ITEM FROM AMERICAN CARVER.This item is best described as a wooden money clip. It is 100% teak wood, not just a piece of wood glued to a metal money clip. Those are nice too, but I really love the feel and distinguished look of wood.
I have rounded over the corners so that there are no pointed or sharp edges to gouge you. It is small enough to go undetected in your pocket and it has a silky smooth finish so there will be no snags on any fabric.
This clip is 2” long and ¾” wide. The overall thickness (height at the rounded over end) is 1/2”. The opening for the money is just under 1/4” at the tightest point. This gives the correct tension and holding power for ten bills folded once or five bills folded twice. The tension can be adjusted by the folding method. If you have only 5 bills, fold it over twice for a tight hold. If you have more bills, you may want to fold it just once. If you need it tighter just fold it again. There will be some limit as to the number of bills that will fit, so if you are Donald Trump I may need to make a wider one for you. It seems that the comfortable limit on this clip is about 20 bills folded in half. Also, you will notice that the open end is tapered like a funnel to make it easy to slide the bills in and out. Although wood does not have the same amount of spring as a metal clip, it does have some spring and works quite well as a money clip.
The wood is Teak. It is a medium dark color.
The finish is accomplished by extensive sanding with several grades of sandpaper and steel wool, followed by 4-5 coats orange oil with bee's wax and carnuba wax, followed by another light sanding with steel wool, followed by another 2 coats of bee’s wax with orange oil applied and rubbed in by hand. The last step is a good buffing to maximize the shine and smoothness of the wood.
SAVE A TREE!
Most of my hair forks, bangles and other accessories are made from re-claimed wood. I get my supplies from the “burn pile” at a local wood mill. Most of this wood was used to make entry doors, cabinets, entertainment centers and other custom furniture for expensive estate homes and country clubs. I love to see something from the trash bin turn into something so beautiful and functional.
