A celebrity and femme fatale, Luisa Casati Stampa di Soncino was an Italian heiress, muse, and patroness of the arts in early 20th Century Europe. The younger daughter of a wealthy cotton manufacturer, Luisa was born in Milan to a life of luxury. She captivated artists and literati figures alike. And her famous eccentricities dominated and delighted European society for nearly three decades.

Her soirées at the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, on Grand Canal in Venice are legendary. Indeed, she was somewhat of a legend amongst her contemporaries. She astonished Venetian society by parading with a pair of leashed cheetahs and wearing live snakes as jewellery.

The beautiful and extravagant hostess died in London in 1957 and was fittingly buried wearing not only her black and leopardskin finery but a pair of false eyelashes. As the concept of dandy was expanded in the 20th Century to include women, the Marchesa Casati fitted the utmost female example by saying, "I want to be a living work of art".

And indeed you were, bella, indeed you were.

Fit for a goddess, my Luisa La Marchesa Casati Cuff is a tactile interpretation of all things indulgent, opulent and pampered.

A sumptuous bed of Purple Bollywood Brocade has been pleated and adorned with two differing Mourning Black Laces, both equally divine, and then trimmed with a third flourish of Black Lace towards the bottom, to create the perfect ménage à trois. All Victorian, but of course.

Crowning this lush confection is the perfect Antique Shield Pendant with what resembles a Coat of Arms motif. Such majestic glory is exquisitely accented with a single Polished Pink Chalcedony Briolette. To the left and right of this beauty are swirls of White Seed Pearls as well as the most breathtaking Kenyan Pink Rubies.

The final touch of the unexpected? Swags of more Seed Pearls at the hemline.

Lined with Lilac Italian Dupioni Silk, LUISA LA MARCHESA CASATI measures approximately 3.25" tall by 5.5" across and secures with Vintage Metal Buttons. This piece comfortably fits wrists sized from 5" all the way to about 7.5".

All fabrics and findings used in Sheela Goh Couture designs (unless indicated otherwise) are antique and over 100 years old. In fact, some bits are authentic Edwardian and Victorian. Seriously. So please, do wear her with care and respect.
