Hat in Plum wool - needle felted soft fluffy yet firm

Winter hat in Plum wool with Purple, Blue, Yellow, Fuchsia, Brown Yarn Accent.

A head hugging cloche style. The front brim is almost imperceptible; look close, it is slightly flared at the front. A small detail, but makes a nice fitting, good looking hat.

A short helmet style. Just touches the top of ears on most heads; though may come to mid-ear on smaller heads.

>>Size: Fits 21.5 to 23 inch head circumference. The live model has a head size of approx 21 inches. The painted glass mannequin head has a head size of 19 inches. The soft sculpture head with wig has a head size of 23 inches. (photo 3) This gives an idea of how this Plum Wool Hat fits differently on different size heads.

>> Entirely Hand Crafted from scratch.

Basic hat is hand needle felted using plum merino wool roving. The fluff of sheep wool, the same stuff used to create wool yarn, but rather than spin the fluff, we feltmakers go straight from fluff to fabric.

In this case, a dry felting method was used. My goal with needle felted hats is to create a durable yet soft hat. Washing in water NOT recommended it will shrink the hat and change the surface from soft and fluffy to firm with a crust. It takes me 12 to 16 hours to turn the fluff into this style hat.

The mulit-color puzzle piece design, hatband and circle are one long strand of acrylic art yarn, hand sewn onto the hat.

Hats are wrapped in tissue then placed in a clear plastic bag to protect them from moisture during shipping. Usually shipped in a box. Shipping in US is by priority mail with delivery confirmation.
