1880s Victorian Antique Horn Smoke Set Match Holder - Desk Set

A beautiful example of a Victorian smoke set, match holder. This is made of horn / horns. This was originally a smoke and match set, which would hold pipes, tobacco, matches etc. It is in good condition, has wear and such as is normal for a piece from the 1880's and that was used!

There are three pointed hollowed horns that make the base and three cups made of horn that would hold various smoking implements, etc. The bottom of the cups are rounded and some sort of black painted material, I think wood? Some of the black paint is worn and chipped away in places. I think this would be great as a desk set...or maybe even a vase or something! :) It measures 9" high and about 7" long and 6" wide. This piece needs a good cleaning and shining...I bet it would look even more lovely after a spiffin' up.

There is some black tobacco-ish residue inside some of the horn cups and I don't know if it can be cleaned totally but it is not noticeable when displayed...it does not have a scent either (this residue can be seen in picture #5). There is also a chip on the bottom of one of the horns (can also be seen in the photo's).

There is some staining and wear on some of the tips of the horn cups (to be expected) but not a lot. There is metal filigree lining the top of each cup. A very interesting and beautiful piece.
