Description

Have you ever seen a LUCET? This is an ancient tool used to make cord. It has been used for centuries since the Vikings to turn fiber thread into cord.

Today, this historic reproduction can be used to make bracelets, laces, earrings, ties - anything that decorative cord will make.

The lucet is easy to learn and portable. You can take your craft with you everywhere. It is fun, fast, and anyone can do it!

Use any ordinary embroidery floss, thread, yarn, string, or decorative cords to make a strong, braided cord.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A LUCET WITH AND WITHOUT A HANDLE?

This is really just a matter of preference. Both work exactly the same and the resulting cord made on each is the same. The handled lucet is held and turned by the handle. Lucets without a handle are held in the palm. The handled lucet works as well with larger fibers as it does fine fibers.

WHAT CAN Y*O*U DO WITH A LUCET?

Be creative in what you can do with the cord that you make! Use it to make jewelry, embellish clothing, make fancy shoe laces, use it on accessories, quilts - the uses are only limited by your imagination! Great for making bracelets, necklace cords, earrings!

This LUCET comes with illustrated directions that will show how to use it.

The LUCET is handmade of strong Poplar. Poplar is a renewable wood. This lucet is made in a traditional design and the handle is made for a comfortable grip and turning. There is a large hole for the finished cord to pass through, allowing larger cords to pass through. This piece of poplar has unique, natural shading in the wood that ranges from cream with a subtle green tint to almost a nut brown. This is truly a one of a kind piece of wood resulting in a distinct lucet.

I cut, shape, and finish the wood to create the Lucet based on a two hundred plus year old traditional design. The lucet has been finished with a hard, hand-rubbed oil finish that brings out the luster of the wood.

In addition to hobby use, this lucet is historically accurate and is appropriate and correct for living history interpreters, reenactors, and SCA members. It is appropriate from the Renaissance through the American Civil War. Historically, the lucet was brought from Europe to America's first settlements in the 17th Century.

Revive an ancient art form. Simple, Easy, and Fun!

See photos for sample of cord made on this Lucet from six-strand sewing floss and a sample of cord made from string.

The lucet measures approx. eight inches long by two and three quarter inches at its widest point.
