Ancient Fresco Necklace

Description

A fresco is a very special type of wall mural. The paint has a glow that seems to radiate from inside the wall. This is achieved by painting directly on wet plaster. When dry, the paint and the plaster permanently fuse together.

As I am creating jewelry, I find myself aiming for the same effect. Only instead of paint, I mix metals and stones. Two different mediums permanently and beautifully fused together as if they have always been one.

Like the paint of an ancient fresco, this necklace is dripping with gems and pearls that have an amazing holistic beauty and glow. As you gaze on the pendant, you will find it infused with the earthy colors of greens, yellows, brown and gold. A closer look reveals fresh green apple peridot, tourmaline in deep sparkly shades of gold, green and brown, fresh water pearls with deep rich luster, and a sprinkling of sky blue aquamarines, green onyx, and red garnets. The gold then becomes intertwined with silver in both a dark and light patina, as if the aging process is happing right before you very eyes. The silver becomes part of the gold, and gold a part of the silver, as it wraps itself in and out in a playful, lacy dance. The chain is comprised of layered 14k gold filled chain, faceted green grossular garnets, aquamarines, red garnets, green fresh water pearls, 14k gold filled beads, and a few sterling silver beads.

Gold filled or rolled gold is created by joining a base metal with an outer layer of gold through a process of heat and pressure. The base metal in my wire is brass and the gold is 14 karat. The gold will not chip or rub off and is very durable. This product is advantageous because it keeps down cost without limiting the long-term wear of jewelry.
