This Is the Storekeeper 11x14 WPA Art Print

Description

In the era of megastore grocery giants, it's important to get acquainted our neighbors who work in our local shops. Created for the New York State WPA Project between 1936 and 1937, this print gives us a glimpse back to the daily duties of the local shop worker. The hand lettered text reads, "This is the storekeeper / He sells the things that are good for you to eat / He must keep the food clean." The print is a carefully restored version of the original art that would be perfect for that local lover or budding historian in your life.

This high-quality digital print measures 11 inches by 14 inches with a printed image size of 8 inches by 10.2 inches, including text -- large enough to make a lively statement and perfect for framing. It will ship gently rolled, in cellophane to ensure its safe arrival.

I use fine 100lb recycled white French paper for this and all other prints in the series.

During the Great Depression, U.S. president Franklin D. Roosevelt employed artists across the country through the Works Progress Administration. The WPA and its subordinate projects such as the Federal Theatre Project and Federal Arts Project embarked on a campaign of education, entertainment and art that brought the arts to people ways unprecedented in America, before and since. As a long time fan of the informational posters created by the WPA, I've always sought to restore some of my my favorite pieces. I've recently begun painstakingly restoring original works from the WPA to share with you! Many of these posters would be a great addition to the walls of a special child or family in your life.
