Coin Silver Spoon made by W. Pitkin, Silversmith, mid-1800s
Description
This lovely old monogrammed spoon was handmade from coin silver by prolific silversmith Walter Pitkin, active in Hartford, CN during the mid 1800s. The other mark on the back is Root & Chaffee, jewelers and watchmakers active in Pittsfield, MA from 1840-49, after which they relocated to Rutland, Vt.The fiddle-shaped teaspoon has a very finely feathered monogram which I cannot read.
This spoon does show some wear, in particular a crease in the handle. I didn't polish it so as not to damage its historic value, but I feel confident it would shine right up.
This spoon would be a lovely addition to anyone's collection.
Thanks for looking!
