Steampunk Spider Necklace - Gothic Neo Victorian Couture

This large creepy couture necklace is a steampunk spider's wonderland. A large white and purple spider spins a web of destiny with delicate chain and silver watch parts. The spider is a vintage brass stamping that I have enameled to create a ghostly appearance. Ever notice how the lighter spiders are always the scarier ones?

An assemblage of watch parts and enamel flowers bloom with Victorian elegance upon an ornate black enameled brass stamping. The large plum flower assemblage has been layered with watch hands at the center of each petal. The center of the flower is adorned with silver gears, a smaller double layer flower, and a lavender rhinestone. Enamel and lucite flowers in black and plum dance around the pendant and accent the web of gears.

Featured among the watch parts are antique watch plates from Elgin and South Bend Watch Co. The Elgin is from a 15 jewel watch created in 1899, serial number 8595769. The South Bend Watch Co. watch plate is from a pocket watch created in 1911, serial number 708035. Both watch plates are engraved with beautiful diamond shape guilloche patterns.

A dark purple plastic briolette descends from the pendant like a precious jewel the spider has sworn to protect. I have wove delicate silver chain symmetrically around the pendant to further create a spider web fantasy. The chain is secured at the top of the pendant, and is wrapped around each opening in the pendant's border. The chain is tight enough so that it will not come loose, but it also provides you with the option of choosing how low each draped layer should dangle.

The pendant is suspended from braided chain in black enamel with shiny and matte silver. I have braided the chain in an uneven pattern to give the appearance that it has been coated with a spider's silky threads. The chain is accented with Czech glass beads in dappled purple and metallic silver.

The pendant is just under 3.25 inches wide (8.3 cm). The top of the pendant to the bottom of the center draped chain is 5.25 inches long (13.3 cm). The necklace is designed to sit closely at the base of the neck with a chain length of 16 inches (40.6 cm).

This necklace is called Arachne's Destiny. The spider is a creature both feared and admired for it's elegant ability to weave glistening webs and it's reputation as a silent and deadly predator. Spiders have been a focus of mythology, stories, and fairy tales for centuries. My favorite depiction of spiders is their portrayal as weavers of destiny.
