Alabama Ebony jewelwing
Description
After a 4 month separation from my printmaking tools, I am celebrating the reunion with a 4 x 4 series: four wildlife studies (bird, reptile, insect, plant) for four states I've lived in (Idaho, Alabama, Kansas, Texas). While in Alabama, I was a field technician monitoring Eastern bluebird populations. It entailed spending a great deal of time out along the edges of agricultural fields and pastures, where critters of all sorts aboundThere was a sweet little stream near Tuskegee, Alabama, where I loved to spend my free afternoons. I had many magical moments there - catfish-eating water snakes, waterthrushes, screech owls. One time I encountered this lovely black damselfly with a strange bouncing flight: the Ebony jewelwing. Jewelwings stick to forested streams, and the females have white dots on the tips of their wings.
This original hand-pulled print is 3" x 3", on 4" x 5" Japanese kozo-shi paper. Each piece is signed and dated by the artist.
