Snowdrop Root Child

Where I live, the first snowdrops emerge in late winter and carpet the ground in drifts of white and green. In nature, snowdrops bloom early so that they don’t have to compete with other flowers for pollination. In the stories my young daughter and I tell, the snowdrop and crocus root children are best friends who find it too hard to wait for everyone else to wake up, so they pop up out of the ground and run through the snow in anticipation of spring. Snowdrops are also known as “Candlemas Bells” and “Mary’s Tapers”.

This snowdrop root child stands 2 and 3/4” tall and is made of wool and cotton with a cape of white petals. The doll is embroidered with a green and pale-pink twisted lattice band toward the base. A single blossom adorns the hood. Snowdrop’s face has simple embroidered features inspired by the Waldorf tradition to encourage open creativity. Snowdrop is suitable for display and storytelling, and should be kept out of reach from pets and children who still put toys in their mouths (small parts may be a choking hazard). The base of the doll is signed in thread with an “A.”
