Mokume and Copper Birdie Recycled

The bird in the middle of the large photo is one of 4 birds inspired by a recycled gift of precious metal canes I made into these birdies' eyes. The tiny 1/8" flower canes came from Scott Slobodian an amazing Japanese sword maker out of central California. I knew they would be eyes the moment MY eyes saw them. Thanks Scott.

The mokume itty bitty wing was from my husband who used the bigger pieces for bolsters on fancy pocket knife. We bought this piece of mokume from an Austrian maker: Johannes Ebner. It's bronze, copper, & nickel in a wood faux bois pattern. What an ordeal to get it sawed in half (it was way too thick). Mokume is a layering of precious metals that are heated and when just the right temp FUSE, then are stretched and pounded into patterns. From it came 3 little wings.

The body is recycled copper, cut by me. It hangs from a 20" antiqued copper round link chain. The bird is just under 1 1/2" from beak to tail.
