St. Bernard in Wengen, Switzerland - Textile Collage Art - Wall Hanging Fabric Art

Description

Wengen, Switzerland is my favorite place to ski in the world. This piece is based on a photo I took at Kleine Scheidegg.

Many barns and huts dot the slopes at Wengen, which are pastures for local cattle (with great hiking paths) in summer. A St. Bernard actually toting a little barrel on his collar was resting in a sunny spot below a trail when I snapped this photo.

11" x 14" (27.94 cm x 35.56 cm)

The snow is dupioni silk in white and cream. The trees and chairlift are also dupioni silk in greens and silver. The hut is flannel with marbled and batik cotton accents. The dog is a white cotton print with free-motion embroidered two-tone brown coloration.

The sky is a cotton print with glittery silver specs that capture subtle flashes of light like snow flurries in the late afternoon sun. A layer of batting in the construction gives the forms added 3-dimensional texture.

The border is the sky blue cotton, and white and cream dupioni silks, gallery wrapped around a stretched canvas frame, wired for hanging.
