Crochet Textile Cuff Bracelets or Collar V Dark Spun Warm Fuzzies
Description
These two textile cuff bracelets are free form crocheted using a variety of soft and fluffy natural fibers. They can be worn together as a single collar, or wear them separately on each wrist as a cross between wrist warmers and bracelets. I think they look really cute poking out from under your sleeves. The colors are deep and rich, including black, steal blue, grey, olive green, purple, fuchsia, gray, burgundy, and brown. The four buttons are antique brass shank buttons with purple tops that may be glass. When I bought them, I was told they are Victorian from the late 1800s. To add some visual texture, I hand-spun the cabled strands of yarn from pure wool on a drop spindle. The clasps are crocheted from pure silk yarn that is so soft, you can barely believe it, and glows with a subtle sheen. I love the way it is both fancy and cozy. Dark and jewel tones and art yarns update a classic look found in the Victorian style. I use black for a touch of goth and boudoir, but I soften it a bit by using more color. The rich and natural fibers give it a modern feel that's not too funky to go out of style. Smaller than a regular wool scarf, they're a conveniently small yet cozy accessory for Fall and Winter. My mother has always been an avid knitter, and she's made me drawers full of sweaters over the years. Everything she makes has some little detail or doodle, often in the collar or cuffs. When I wear these sweaters inside a jacket, the fancy details still show, which I love. Since I already make jewelry, I thought it would be fun to design fancy collars and cuffs like my mom's, but without the whole sweater. That way, I can just focus on the details, my favorite part. I weave with so many wonderful yarns and threads, many from my mom's overflowing collection of remnants. I experiment with all kinds of stitches and tricks with my needles and hooks. Each piece is a unique exploration in color and texture.
The cuffs are identical in size, about 7 inches long when clasped and 2.25 inches wide, but they are very stretchy, to 8 inches. Hand wash in cold, pat in towel, line dry or dry flat on a cookie sheet. As long as you don't wring them out too hard, they should look the same after washing.
