Power Figure Doll Sculpture

I’m working with a lot of different ideas and concepts here but basically this is my doll version of African power figures – especially Nkisi and Bocia figures.

Her deformities are based on neurofibromatosis.

Her right arm (the little one) is antique German bisque: the rest of the figure is hand-made/hand-sculpted by me in fabric, Magic Sculpt and PaperClay.

Additive material includes fabric, fiber, beads and antique doll parts.

Materials include PaperClay for sculpting of the face/head and fabric for the body, Magic Sculpt for the limbs, artist acrylic paints and mediums, fiber beads, etc. The piece has been “aged” using several techniques I have developed over the years for creating the illusion of age and weathering. These effects are achieved with artist acrylic paints, mediums and other stable and durable materials. The head is sealed and protected with an archival quality polymer varnish (matte). She is signed on the back with my sigil. She comes with the antiqued wood base as shown.
