You ate that first one and its flesh was sweet
Like thickened wine: summer's blood was in it
Leaving stains upon the tongue and lust for
Picking. Then red ones inked up and that hunger
Sent us out with milk cans, pea tins, jam-pots
Where briars scratched and wet grass bleached our boots.
Round hayfields, cornfields and potato-drills
We trekked and picked until the cans were full,
Until the tinkling bottom had been covered
With green ones, and on top big dark blobs burned
Like a plate of eyes. Our hands were peppered
With thorn pricks, our palms sticky as Bluebeard's.'

This hat is knitted in Rowan Classic Cashsoft Baby DK in Bloom (815) and garlanded with luscious crocheted roses in Bloom and Borage (Shade 806). The berries are crocheted in Rowan Classic Cashsoft DK in Parma (now discontinued).

The circumference of this hat is approximately 16 inches, the height 4 inches from brim to beginning of decreasing on crown. Please email me for more information if required.

Rowan Classic Cashsoft Baby DK is a soft and silky blend of merino, cashmere and microfibre and is available in other delicious colours. If you like what you see, but would prefer another colour or even a different size, please contact me and I can offer you some custom-made alternatives.
