HAND KNIT and then FELTED - Felted Bead BAG - Pipp VS Noni
Description
Fellow bag designer, Noni, inspired this design with her Bobbles Bobbles bag. I used my clutch pattern to get the look of her bag. Instead of knitting all of those bobbles,I made a bunch of wool beads from unspun wool roving and felted them.
I took the look of her bag and used my design to get the same whimsical look.
About the BEADS! I decided to roll beads from wool roving, felt them and sew them on. I started the felting of each bead by hand and then threw them into my front loader the condense even more. It looked like a psychedelic bingo ball spinner.
Oh yeah…rolling out the bubble gum balls is a good workout for for upper arms:) Woohoo! Knitting and burning fat!
How is it knit and felted? First, I knit up a giant bag which takes me around 12 to 15 hours. You could put a small child into it once it has been seamed together.... seriously! After the knitting is done, I toss it into the washer for shrinking. The hot water, detergent and agitation transforms the bag from a stretchy over-sized behemoth into a soft, very pliable yet dense fabric that is stain resistant and very durable.
