Description

A suribachi is a Japanese mortar and pestle or spice grinder.

This smaller version measures approximately 2 7/8" H x 5 7/8" W and fits comfortably into the hand. Unlike some more shallow suribachis I have seen here on etsy, this one is actually functional, and is deep enough to use the suribachi properly.

Its ideal for crushing and grinding your own fresh herbs, spices, or seeds for your favorite dish. The hardwood pestle/surikogi will not damage the grooves in the clay suribachi.

Despite the bowl's rough unglazed surface, it cleans easily with hot sudsy water or in your dishwasher.

Food and dishwasher safe.
Includes wooden pestle (surikogi).

Made of Alabama clay found near our studio, this suribachi was formed on the potters wheel, decorated with a stylized dragonfly design and a earthtone spodumene glaze and stylized dragonfly brushwork, then high-fired in a gas kiln to approximately 2350 degrees Fahrenheit.

I've signed and dated the bottom.
