Title: Star-lit Rush of a Hare

Original drawing and mixed-media painting on 12 1/4 x 12 1/4 heavy weight coldpress Arches watercolor paper.

I drew the figure on a page from an antique book of poems from Elizabeth Barrett Browning circa 1900. Her dress is collaged with decorative papers and pages from another antique book Journey Into Bookland. The background was painted with acrylics. It has been sealed with a varnish. The poem below from D.H. Lawrence was handwritten in the sky and was painted over. Only a few words remain.

ROUND the house were lilacs and strawberries
And foal-foots spangling the paths,
And far away on the sand-hills, dewberries
Caught dust from the sea’s long swaths.

Up the wolds the woods were walking,
And nuts fell out of their hair.
At the gate the nets hung, balking
The star-lit rush of a hare.

In the autumn fields, the stubble
Tinkled the music of gleaning....
