TWENTY-EIGHTH: Ghost speaker

“Death?” Tom cocked his head and scratched at the balding spot upon it. “Death, Death, Death…”

Blackthorn sighed, used to the ghost’s lackadaisical whims. “Do you know or don’t you, Tom? We haven’t got all night.”

“I’m thinking,” said the ghost, a bit injured. And then: “Yes. I remember now.”

Laluna and Blackthorn leaned forward, but the ghost looked from one to the other and laughed. “Now, now, you know how these things work.” And he began to look less like a gentleman and more like a snake oil salesman. “What are you going to give me in exchange?”

Laluna shook her head. “I only have these cupcakes, Tom… And ghosts can’t eat cupcakes, I’m afraid.”

Tom stared at the cupcakes as if bewitched, and Blackthorn, glancing from the ghost to the sweets and back again, got quite the twisted grin upon his face. Laluna frowned.
