Cast and hand carved Resin Computer Ring - Size 6

Description

This ring starts with a base of deep cobalt blue resin, rising up to a nearly 5/8" square of a computer part that I can't identify - it's an offwhite ceramic donut shape, tinged in blue glaze on top and wrapped with copper wire, then capped in clear.

Dimensions:
1 1/16" tall from shank to top;
3/4" wide x 5/8" deep on top;
will rise 3/8" off your finger.

My rings are made completely by hand (my hands!), and each is one-of-a-kind. While my main work is fused glass, I just adore the possibilities of resin and embedded objects.

I use industrial grade urethane resin (much stronger than polyester or epoxy resins, doesn't yellow, warp or scratch) as opposed to 'craft store' resin. I mix and dye my resin, then pour it into a silicone ice cube tray mold, let it set up a bit, then add my object and cover it with clear resin. After it has cured, I post cure in my kiln for 6 hours to ensure extra durability and heat tolerance. I drill a hole for the finger, then carve down to my rough shape - first with my saw, then with my belt sander. I further refine the shape with finer and finer sandpaper (up to 3600 grit), then buff with plastic buffing compound.
