1935/36 Monopoly Board Game Box Spiral Bound Notebook
Description
This blank spiral bound sketch book/journal measures approximately 6" x 7.25". It is made from the box top from a 1935/36's Parker Brother's "Monopoly". This was the first box design that Parker Brothers used. Between 1935 and 1936, there were four variation of this box printed by Parker Brothers, and their age can be estimated by the how many patent numbers are printed. The first boxes have no patent numbers at all. By the time Parker Brothers began introducing new box designs in 1936, boxes printed with this design listed 4 patent numbers. This box has only one, suggesting that it was part of Parker Brothers 2nd release of the game in this box.The front and back covers of this notebook are laminated and all four corners are rounded. The inside front and back covers are decorated with a patterned card stock. The outside back cover is black. The book is filled with 70 leaves of 70# text weight, 100% post consumer waste, recycled paper. It is bound with 3/4" antique silver spiral o-rings. There is an opaque metallic silver end sheet on either side of the text block.
A key chain made from 3 of the game's original pieces is attached. They are all made of wood. In the early editions of Monopoly, such as this one, the wooden tokens were a simple barrel shape in a variety of colors.
