Basic Roll-Bottom Hat Pattern

Description

This versatile roll bottom hat is knit double thick: warm for winter when made with acrylic or wool, but suitable for cool spring days when knit in cotton. A fast and easy project - great pattern for making gifts or multiple hats in different sizes. Use any easy care worsted weight yarn and knit with two strands at once on size 10 1/2 circular needles. Gauge is 3 sts per inch. Unlimited color and yarn possibilities - simply knit a solid colored hat using one color for both strands of yarn, or combine two shades of one color for subtle effects. Try one strand of variegated yarn and one solid, or add thin eyelash yarn with two strands of any yarn, for a fuzzy hat. Attractive stitch pattern on top of hat is made from simple decrease sequence using a set of double pointed needles. Pattern includes sizes 0-3 months, 6-18 months, toddler, and youth (fits child, teens and women).

Project requirements:

- approx. 200 yards total worsted weight yarn for largest size (or 100 yards of each strand you choose)

- size 9 and 10 1/2 16" circular needles and DP set in size 9 or 10
