This smaller ring features a lovely cabochon of variscite, lashed to a bronze bezel with sterling wire. The variscite is one of Gary Wilson's one-of-a-kind beauties in soft, creamy greens, ochres and browns. It has a very high profile and a matte finish. The metal components were hammered on my anvil of desert rock, oxidized and worked and finished by hand as always. The tapered band has been riveted together and is extremely sturdy.

I've been dreaming a lot about the Anasazi lately, looking at artifacts, ruins, soaking in their beauty. "Ancestral Puebloans" is the now-proper term, but every time I try to say it I feel like a drunken Elmer Fudd trying to talk around a mouthful of marbles...but I digress. It seems to me that everything the Anasazi created embodies the feeling of the desert so impeccably, and I know this happened not because they contrived it to be so, but rather that it flowed spontaneously through them because they were a part of the desert and they knew it. To me, that effortless flow is the epitome of craftsmanship and it was something I held in heart and mind as I formed this piece. The shape, and the way the stone is held in place by wrapping, was inspired by Anasazi artifacts.

Size: 7 3/4. The bezel measures 1 3/4" x 3/4", and the stone sits just under 1/2" high.

Care: Wash with lukewarm water and hand dry. Buff with a soft cloth to polish, but don't use any chemical polish as it may discolor the stone.
