Fushia Floral on Aqua Faux Ribbon Domed Ornament

Description

This ornament is made using a rather interesting tool. The dome is created on a burned out lightbulb! How's that for recycling???? The base ornament is made using a custom mix of cream clay. A piece of aqua clay embellished with leaf cane slices and fushia and white flower cane slices is added to form the "faux ribbon" effect. This layered clay is then draped over the lightbulb and a template is used to cut a circle. A fushia rope of clay borders the faux ribbon, then swirls of cream clay complete the design. After curing gold highlights are added to bring out the details.

After the clay is cured and removed from the lightbulb, a hanger and backing sheet is added. Each ornament is signed and dated. A tiny clear glitter glaze is added to the faux ribbon portion to enhance and add interest, then a clear sealant is added for protection.

Because these ornaments are handmade, the size may vary slightly but the average is approximately 3 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches deep. Because of the unique properties of polymer clay, the ornament is lightweight.
